but looking at narrower product lines. but now in coming to the u.s., i can look at all the different product lines in one geographic market, so it's a different way of looking at the business. much more in the trenches of day-to-day business in the market rather than in the headquarters of the corporation. >> host: for samsung's products is the u.s. and canada, north america, a growth market? >> guest: it still is. i mean, traditionally we've thought developed markets and developing markets, and with developed markets it's being seen as someone mature. but if you look at the last few years of our progress in the u.s. market, we've seen tremendous growth. some of that is coming from new categories like the rise of the digital television or the growth of the phone business. some of it is as we pick up our market share. we're the fastest-growing brand in home appliances, for example, an area where samsung brand hasn't been as well known. but now bringing the same mix of innovation that we brought to televisions and phones, bringing new designs, now we can also grab business in home appliances.

the fire on the carnival cruise ship triumph. yesterday, the u.s. coast guard said the fire started in front of a generator in the main engine crime. that fire left the cruise liner without power for five days with 4200 people on board. investigators say it could take up to a year to determine what exactly caused the fire. despite that initial report from the coast guard, congress says it still wants answers into the cruise ship disaster. hours after the triumph was towed to alabama, senator jay rockefeller september a letter to the -- sent a letter to the coast guard, demanding a review of the incident and similar incidents in the last six years. the senator says there might be a larger safety issue that needs to be reviewed involving large passenger vehicles. >>> and when congress returns next week, they will only have four days for the sequester. coming up, the automatic budget cuts here for california. >>> why facebook's tax bill is zero. in fact, the social media giant will get a huge refund. >>> and what russian scientists are finding after friday's meteor explosion and the ne

as a very negative and unfortunate -- they lend an unfortunate view of the u. s. power and how the united states project its power abroad. every time there is a drone strike, you see it on 40 channels at least in pakistan. we have a very robust and raucous free media. you see them on all these channels with the us flag on its livery. and if that in and of itself makes life very difficult for us as we build consensus, public consensus. people are saying, this is the united states war, not hours. however, we have addressed that. it is operationally counterproductive because it creates more potential terrorists on the ground and militants on the ground instead of taking them out. if it is taking at a high value or medium value target, then it is also creating probably an entire community of future recruits to a cause that we are seeking to drain sympathy for in all these areas. we need to drain the swamp. instead it is radicalizing people who were standing up against militants and terrorists, using our religion, for instance, as a mobilizing force. i think that drones as an instrument may ha

. some of them are interesting. high volatility u.s. large caps and micro cap stocks. it would seem you're increasing the beta place. when you say u.s. large cap volatile stocks, what do you mean by that? >> well, we believe that there's an evolution in the asset classes that investors are going to be tapping into in the next decade. you know, if you look back over the last 20 years, people spent a lot of time arguing, what was the value stock, what was a growth stock. and a lot of times it was in the eye of the beholder. volatility is a much more objective mesh yasure of what a stock is. you can do very good long term, 80 and 90-year analysis of what this asset class means. and right now, we show high volatility stocks have been beaten down very, very much in the rally, relative to low volatility, sort of bond proxy stocks. that suggests to us that they're one of the best opportunities in the market, as we stabilize, as the fed keeps pushing in liquidity. i think you're going to see a return to those kinds of beaten-down names. >> you know, michael, one of the big talkers of the mornin

's the higher end of walmart's previously issued guidance range. the world's largest retailer forecast, the u.s. key same-store sales to grow between 1% and 3%. last year's fourth quarter grew 1.5 year over year. but beyond financials, investors will look into possible investigations. there hasn't been a clear timeline as to when the investigation results will be released from the allegations that walmart issued millions of dollars in bribes to officials in mexico. if you remember, it was last quarter that walmart stated an s.e.c. filings that they have expanded those investigations beyond just mexico and to brazil, china and india. >> you know, this is going to be a fascinating story today. we heard about these leaked memos. walmart knocking it down saying things were taken out of context. i saw something overnight from the nrf, national retail federation where they said something like six out of ten americans say their savings and their budgeting has been somewhat or greatly impacted by the changes in the taxes that kicked in at the beginning of the year. >> and i think it's interesting becau

temperatures across the central u.s., mostly into the teens and 20s. if you were to look at the temperatures in louisiana, they are in the 60s and 70s. a sharp temperature contrast with this area of low pressure moving across the central mississippi valley as we go into this evening and then going through time for friday, into the tennessee valley, ohio river valley. and this is where the storm really starts to ring out. but across the southeast, some of these areas in georgia, south carolina, north central florida could see between 4 and 8 inches of rainfall. we'll keep you updated on that. wolf? >> karen, thanks very, very much. >>> new questions about how one of the most prominent catholic leaders in the united states handled the problem of pedophile priests. i've discovered gold. , according to the u.s. coast guard they're probably less than 50 miles away from mobile right now. that might sound pretty close, but it's probably going to feel like an eternity before they get here. there was a flurry of activity last night with helicopters delivering new supplies to the ship and some new generators, so that sort of implies that they might have some means to have more electricity on board and everyone to have perhaps more food and more water before they get here. but once they do arrive here, that's when things are going to start moving relatively quickly for the 3100 passengers on board. here the plans have already been made to have buses waiting for them to take them back to their cars in galveston, texas, so they can drive right home tonight if they want to or they can take them to a hotel where you can bet there will be plenty of people anxious to get to that first hot shower they have had in quite some time. you think about this, soledad, this ship was supposed to arrive in galveston, texas, on sunday. they're now 500 miles off course and five days overdue. >> or they
